VATICAN CITY, JULY 5, 2006 (Zenit.org).- July is the month in which Christians are invited to experience the power of the Blood of Christ, shed on the cross for the salvation of men and women, Benedict XVI said today.
Before taking leave of the 25,000 people gathered in St. Peter's Square for the general audience, the Holy Father spoke in Polish to remind the faithful that July is "a month in which we traditionally venerate the Most Precious Blood of Christ."
"In the world, innocent human blood is continually being spilled. The hearts of men are often full of hate rather than evangelical love, they often contain disdain and arrogance rather than care for mankind," he added.
The Pope requested pilgrims "to pray that modern humanity may experience the power of the Blood of Christ, poured out on the cross for our salvation."
