The event will take place Nov. 9-13 with the theme “The Eucharist: Heart of Christian Life and Source of the Evangelizing Mission of the Church.”

Representatives of the Roman Curia will include Cardinals Paul Poupard, Julián Herranz, Alfonso López Trujillo and Darío Castrillón Hoyos.

Leaders of new movements and ecclesial realities expected to attend include Kiko Argüello, founder of the Neocatechumenal Way; Bishop Javier Echevarría, prelate of Opus Dei; Jesús Carrascosa, international director of Communion and Liberation; Father Álvaro Corcuera, general director of the Legionaries of Christ; and Nunziatina Cilento, co-founder of the Focolare Movement.

According to an announcement today from the university, the congress will be held in honor of Pope John Paul II and, in particular, of his encyclical “Ecclesia de Eucharistia.”

The congress is the first of its kind held in a university and, the organizers hope, “might open a new avenue in the Church for the holding of such congresses. That is why the Pope is sending a pontifical commission headed by Cardinal Jozef Tomko, president of the Pontifical Committee for Eucharistic Congresses.”
