DUBLIN, Ireland APRIL 20, 2012 (Zenit.org).- The 50th International Eucharistic Congress 2012 is holding a special event to recognize people who participated in the 1932 Eucharistic Congress 80 years ago in Dublin.

More than 100 people who attended the 1932 Congress will gather Monday to share their firsthand memories of the event.

The 1932 Congress was celebrated throughout Ireland, but the main events took place in Dublin. Thousands of people joined the journey towards the Congress welcoming the Papal Legate, Cardinal Lorenzo Lauri. Similar to the preparations for IEC2012, all public buildings were lit up at night for the duration of the 1932 Congress week.

This 1932 commemorative event will commence with a short screening of a Radharc film that illustrates the significance of the 1932 Congress for Ireland and for the hundreds of thousands of people who attended.

There will be ample time to reminisce about the events that took place from June 21 to 26, 1932. Many have vivid memories of Ireland’s international tenor and Papal Knight, Count John McCormack singing Panis Angelicus, as soloist at the final open air Mass in the Phoenix Park.
