The marathon television program “Vatican Christmas 2002,” in which the choirs will sing Christmas carols, begins Dec. 24 at 11 a.m. Rome time.

At noon on Christmas, the papal message and blessing “urbi et orbi” (to the city of Rome and the world) will be broadcast, along with traditional Christmas greetings by the Holy Father in more than 60 languages.

The transmission, made possible by the cooperation of the Vatican Television Center and Praxes Ltd. of Bozeman, Montana, may be followed on Christmas Day on cable, satellite and Internet television channels.

The Pontifical Council for Social Communications issued the invitations to the choirs. The initiative is presented at www.vaticanchristmas2002.com.
