3 Join Panel Preparing Eucharistic Congress

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 6, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI appointed three new members of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses.

The Vatican press office announced today that the three new members are:

— Archbishop Robert Sarah, secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples;

— Bishop Brian Farrell, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity;

— Redemptorist Father Real Tremblay, consultor of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

They will collaborate in the preparation of the International Eucharistic Congress to be held June 15-22, 2008, in Quebec.

Cardinal Jozef Tomko, 82, retired prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, is the committee’s president.

The Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses was established in 1879 and had its updated statutes approved in 1986 by Pope John Paul II.
