44 Legionaries Ordained in Rome

ROME, DEC. 24, 2001 (ZENIT.org).- In a single ceremony, Cardinal Severino Poletto ordained 44 new priests of the Legion of Christ.

The archbishop of Turin ordained members of the religious congregation on Saturday in the Basilica of St. Mary Major. The new priests come from the United States, Canada, England, France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Brazil and Chile.

The Legion was founded by Father Marcial Maciel in January 1941. It now has more than 520 priests and some 2,500 seminarians. It works in more than 20 countries in missions, education centers, media, charitable projects and evangelization.
