A press release from the bishops’ conference of England and Wales announced that the leading man of the movie “Bella” will be speaking at the upcoming Youth 2000 festival, a 5-day retreat that begins Thursday.
This annual program aims to provide a “gateway” back into the Church for young people, age 16-30, who no longer practice their Catholic faith.
The press release noted that this festival unfolds in the style of World Youth Day, with talks, testimonies, dynamic prayer and worship.
At this year’s event in Walsingham, Verastegui will join the youth to share his experiences in Hollywood, and to describe the conversion that led him back to his Catholic faith.
Since his conversion, the actor has dedicated his talents to God. He founded “Metanoia Films” to produce movies with values, such as “Bella,” which portrays a young woman’s struggle with unwanted pregnancy and the choice of abortion.
Another speaker at the festival is Michelle Moran, a founding member of the Sion Catholic Community for Evangelism, and member of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.
