Bishop Emeritus Langevin Dies

OTTAWA, JULY 22, 2003 (Zenit.org).- Bishop Emeritus Louis-de-Gonzague Langevin, of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, died Monday. He was 82.

Born at Oka, Quebec, he was ordained in Ottawa, on Feb. 2, 1950, for the Missionaries of Africa. He was named auxiliary bishop of Saint-Hyacinthe on Aug. 9, 1974, and bishop on July 14, 1979.

As member of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, he served on a number of commissions including missions, social communications and ecumenism. He retired from active ministry on April 7, 1998.
