Rebel Group Targeting Christians, 26 Killed During Sunday Mass

An extremist terrorist group is alleged to have carried out an attack on a Catholic Church in Nigeria, killing an estimated 26 people.

According to Fides News Agency, armed men from Boko Haram attacked the church located in the village of Waga Chakawa in Northern Nigeria during Sunday Mass. Local newspapers quoted eyewitnesses saying that the rebel group used firearms and explosive devices. Several homes in the area were also destroyed in the chaos.

The vicious attack was confirmed by Fr. Raymond Danbouye, director of Communications for the Diocese of Yola, but declined to comment on further details. The village is within one of three states in Nigeria where a state of emergency was declared, allowing government forces to launch a counter offensive against Boko Haram.

It was also confirmed that the terrorist group attacked two villages the same day, killing 54 people. (J.A.E)
