Bombs Explode in Indian Cathedral

MUZAFFARPUR, India, MAY 8, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Three bombs exploded in succession in the cathedral here late Saturday night.

‘‘The blast that caused damage to the cathedral is sacrilege for Christians,’’ said Patna Archbishop Benedict J. Osta, after inspecting the damaged building. Patna and Muzaffarpur are in the same eastern state of Bihar. Archbishop Osta demanded a high-level inquiry into the attack.

Handwritten notes, in Hindi, were reportedly found at the scene. Sources said activists of several Hindu groups were seen loitering inside the church before the blasts.
