Cardinal Peter Turkson, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said that since the election of the new president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, a new sort of spring is expected in relations between Iran and other countries.

The Cardinal indicated this today in the Vatican press office when questioned on the subject by journalists, after the presentation of the Day for the 50th anniversary of the encyclical Pacem in Terris.

“At the UN the message was quite conciliatory, although Israel doesn’t believe much in this,” said the cardinal. He added, “I have no reason to doubt the sincerity of his words. We’ll have to see if afterwards his action is coherent with what he said at the UN.”
