Over the next 40 days, Caritas-El Salvador will offer emergency aid to 6,000 families, about 36,000 people, affected by the Jan. 13 earthquake.

During the first days following the earthquake, Caritas said it helped 15,000 families affected by the catastrophe. Caritas-El Salvador estimates the quake affected about 60,000 families.

The local Caritas has established a plan of action for the short, medium, and long-term future, which includes three phases: emergency (until the end of February), transition (beginning in March), and integral reconstruction.

Caritas-El Salvador´s solidarity network has 5,000 volunteers and 200 individuals under contract.
