Caritas´ Coordination Committee approved the project presented by the diocesan Caritas of Rawalpindi-Islamabad, amounting to $299,631, to supply emergency aid to 2,300 Afghan families living near Queta, Pakistan.
Goods including blankets and hygiene products were distributed this week.
The diocesan Caritas of Hyderabad will begin to install 600 sanitary facilities in the camps being built on the outskirts of Peshawar. Caritas-Pakistan has put $260,000 into the project.
Meanwhile, Caritas-Holland announced it is sending blankets and fuel for domestic stoves and cookers to the Iranian-Afghan border, where there are 50,000 refugee families, and to the south of Afghanistan, where there are another 20,000 families.
U.S.-based Catholic Relief Services is sending 140 tons of food, 5,000 blankets, and 1,000 tents (donated by Caritas-Germany) to the Jazolai camp, near Peshawar.
The Pakistani Community Program, a group affiliated to Caritas, will distribute the aid to 2,500 families in the Jazolai camp.
