Archbishop Salvatore Fisichella, president of the dicastery, said the meeting seeks “to promote a renewed missionary project that has the Christian communities of every place as its reference.”

The prelates “will put together experiences and future initiatives of evangelization in the context of the current pluralistic and secularized societies,” a Friday press release from the office of the Archbishop of Barcelona stated.

Among the participants is the archbishop of Barcelona, as well as the ordinaries of Budapest, Brussels, Dublin, Cologne, Lisbon, Liverpool, Paris, Turin, Warsaw and Vienna.

“Starting from the experiences that have been had up to this point in various cities in the ‘new evangelization,’ these cities have been chosen for an exchange of experiences, keeping in mind the diversity of cultural contexts and the common problems,” the statement added.

In October 2012 there will be a synod on the new evangelization.
