The Diocese of Anyang, located in the Henan province (China), has a new Coadjutor Bishop.

Bishop Joseph Zhang Yinlin, the former Vicar General of the Diocese, was ordained yesterday at the Cathedral of Anyang. According to Asia News, this marks the first episcopal ordination in the country since that of Bishop Ma Daqin of Shanghai in July 2013.

Both ordinations are with papal mandate as well as recognition by the Chinese government.

Bishops Zhang was ordained by his predecessor, Bishop Thomas Zhang Huaixin and several other bishops, all of whom are recognized by the Holy See and the Chinese government.

Over 1,300 faithful attended as well as priests and nuns. During the liturgy, Bishop Zhang expressed his gratitude, saying he was ‘very touched’ as well was thanking God “for choosing him, a simple and weak servant.” (J.A.E.)
