E-mail Campaign Aims to Put Christianity in Euro Text

BARCELONA, Spain, OCT. 2, 2003 (Zenit.org).- An e-mail campaign urging European Union leaders to recognize the Christian roots of the continent in the future Constitution has had the support of tens of thousands of citizens.

“Europe cannot be built without Christians,” says one such e-mail. “Why can’t we call ourselves Christians?” asks another. “There is nothing wrong in being a Christian,” says still another.

The Convention of Christians for Europe encourages citizens to suggest the mention of the Christian heritage to politicians before Saturday.

To do so, citizens may write to europe@eciudadanos.org. Their message will be automatically sent to all the politicians involved.

Support for the proposal of Christians for Europe may be registered in English, Spanish and French at www.eurocristians.org.
