ROME, MAY 31, 2002 (Zenit.org).- The Charismatic Renewal Movement will hold its first Continental European meeting at the shrine of Jasna Gora in Poland, from Sept. 24-29.

The European subcommittee of the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (ICCRS), which is organizing the meeting, said in a statement, “In the difficult situation of the Catholic Church in Europe today, the committee sees first a great need for intercession.”

“If we go into the depths of prayer, the Lord can do new things in our continent,” the panel said.

“The central questions during this gathering will be: What is the Holy Spirit saying to the Church of Europe in these years of the continental unification process and what is God´s vision and calling for the European renewal?” the committee stated.

Given the painful history of Europe, the gathering will include a pilgrimage to the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz. The next step — to ask for forgiveness, reconciliation and mercy — will be the prayer in the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Krakow-Lagiewniki where the picture of Merciful Jesus is located as well as the tomb of St. Faustina Kowalska.

Among the speakers for the event are Archbishop Stanislaw Rylko, secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, and Bishop Joseph Grech from Australia, as well as Kim Kollins (from Germany), Charles Whitehead (England), Nikol Baldacchino (Malta), Hudo Dufour (France) and Matteo Calisi (Italy).
