Funds Sought to Cover Cost of Pope's Visit to Lourdes

On the eve of the apostolic trip, Bishop Jacques Perrier presented a provisional budget of $1.82 million.

To cover the expenses, it was expected that the 300,000 pilgrims would voluntarily donate some 10 euros (about $12) each.

“The amount received only covers 15% of the expenses,” the bishop said. He added that he “prefers a spiritual summit and a financial hole than the contrary.”

“I hope our appeal will be heard and I am not going to be dramatic,” he said.
