Holy Father Prays for Victims in Katowice

VATICAN CITY, JAN. 29, 2006 (ZENIT.org).- Benedict XVI assured Poland of his prayers in the wake of an accident in the southern city of Katowice that claimed at least 66 lives.

Another 160 people were injured when the snow-laden roof of a trade fair exhibition hall collapsed Saturday during a racing pigeon show, reported the Associated Press.

After praying the Angelus today, from the window of his study, the Pope said in Polish: “I entrust to the mercy of God all those who died and I unite myself spiritually to their relatives and all those who have been injured. I impart to all my cordial blessing.”
