Article: Tony Blair: Society Needs to Give Space to Faith

I find it unbelievable that a man like Tony Blair, whose voting record on abortion and other life issues is contrary to everything that the Catholic Church stands for, and who wouldn’t speak about his faith as a politician in case he was considered ‘mad’ (I believe this was the word he used), is now speaking openly about faith and society. If his position on this had been clearer when he was Prime minister then he would have given greater leadership in many issues, including moral ones.

I’m afraid that British Catholics might not take seriously anything he says until he and his wife make it clear where they now stand on Life issues and their Catholic faith. Perhaps an apology might be a good start in building the bridges that he has been at the forefront of knocking down in British society. And perhaps the Church might clear up any misunderstandings too regarding his conversion.
