In Iraq, properties and homes belonging to Christian citizens continue being taken from their legitimate owners, reports Fides.

This phenomenon is plaguing the northern part of the nation, particularly in Baghdad and Kirkuk, and began when criminals started falsifying documents which prevented the rightful legal owners from regaining their property. This cycle followed the covering-up of corruption among dishonest officials who were at the service of individual or organized gangs of impostors and swindlers.

Sources observe that such  “organized” robbing of Christian families’ properties was linked to when Iraqi Christians made a mass exodus from the country following US military intervention there.

Abandoned homes and land were taken possession of by the robbers, who depend on the fact that there is little probability that the owners will ever return to reclaim them.

Christian members of the Middle Eastern nation’s parliament and Christian citizens’ associations there have appealed to the local administration calling for an end of this cycle.
