Mexican Cardinal Rivera Urges Words, Not War

MEXICO CITY, JAN. 21, 2003 (Zenit.org).- Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera urged that all actions be avoided that would lead to war between Iraq and the United States, because of the high costs for humanity.

In statements to the press on Sunday, the archbishop primate of Mexico said that the two countries should come to an understanding through dialogue.

“Let us ask God that the nations come to an understanding through the way of peace; war is not necessary; there are many ways to attain peace,” he said. “Things cannot be settled by force or imposition.”
