New Belgian Ambassador Presents Credentials to Pope Francis

Bruno Neve de Mevergnies also Served as Ambassador in Warsaw & Cairo

On Friday morning, Pope Francis met with Bruno Nève de Mévergnies, the new Belgian ambassador to the Holy See. Ambassador de Mévergnies presented his Letters of Credentials to the Holy Father.

The new Belgian ambassador has had an extensive diplomatic career since 1978. His first ambassadorial assignment was in Warsaw, Poland in 2002. From there he also served as Belgium’s ambassador in Cairo.

Prior to his assignment as Belgium’s ambassador to the Holy See, he served in the Belgian Royal Court of the King as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Holy See and the Kingdom of Belgium has maintained formal diplomatic representatives since 1832. Ambassador de Mévergnies succeeds Charles Ghislain who has served as Belgium’s representative to the Holy See since 2010.
