Nun in India Wins "Best Teacher" Award

NEW DELHI, India, AUG. 8, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Sister Annies Mathews said she never expected to be chosen for the “Best Teacher” National Award.

The principal of St. Joseph´s Higher Secondary School in Paingottoor, Muvattupuzha, will receive her award Sept. 5, Teachers´ Day, by Indian President K.R. Narayanan.

“It´s all by the grace of God,” a jubilant Sister Mathews said to SAR Catholic News Agency. “This is a sign of God´s intervention in our lives, even when we are not aware of his presence.”

Sister Mathews is the only nun among the many lay teachers from Kerala who have received the award in the past.
