It has yet to be confirmed by the Vatican, but a panel of theologians from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints has reportedly approved a miracle through the intercession of Venerable Pope Paul VI.

According to Vatican journalist Andrea Tornielli of La Stampa, theologians and doctors have attested that the healing of a child from California, who was expected to be born with severe brain damage, cannot be explained on medical grounds.

The child was born in the 1990s and is now a healthy teenager. The miracle must still receive the approval of the Congregation’s cardinals and bishops, and then Pope Francis.

If it is approved, Paul VI will be beatified, possibly within the year.
