Papal Trips to Canada, Mexico and Guatemala Remain Unaltered

VATICAN CITY, MARCH 12, 2002 (Zenit.org).- There is no change in John Paul II´s agenda for his trips to Canada, Mexico and Guatemala, according to Vatican sources who responded to reports out of Mexico.

Father Ciro Benedettini, subdirector of the Vatican Press Office, told the Mexican press, “We have no information relating to a change in the Holy Father´s plans. We announced the trip to Mexico three weeks ago and, up until now, I have no news that refers to its eventual modification.”

Yet, the priest clarified that the Holy Father´s trip to Mexico will depend on his state of health. Last Saturday, John Paul II returned to his public engagements after being hampered by an arthritic knee.
