Pontiff Greets Journalists One by One

VATICAN CITY, JUNE 20, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI greeted a group of journalists spontaneously, who were covering the visit of Zambian President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa to the Vatican, addressing each one personally.

The newsmen had been admitted to the Library of the Apostolic Palace today to follow the Pope’s audience with the Zambian leader.

“You have much work at this time,” said the Holy Father with a smile, as he approached the reporters. He asked the journalists their names and the media outlet they work for.

“May God bless you in your work,” the Pope said to the only woman in the press group. Before taking his leave, he added: “Good work to all.”

Next to the Pope was the director of the Vatican press office, Joaquín Navarro Valls.
