VATICAN CITY, NOV. 16, 2008 (Zenit.org).- The president of the Pontifical Council for the Family brought papal greetings to Mexico, as that nation continues preparations for the 6th World Meeting of Families.

Cardinal Ennio Antonelli has met with the organizers of the Jan. 13-18 event, expressing satisfaction with the progress of preparations. According to Vatican Radio, the prelate is stressing the importance of the conference, since families “are the fundamental cell of the Church and civil society.”

“Even though Benedict XVI will not be physically present in Mexico, he will actively participate with televised addresses throughout the event,” the cardinal added. “Specifically, the Holy Father will send a video message and intervene directly in the closing Mass on Jan. 18.”

Cardinal Antonelli also reported that the Pontiff plans to send his secretary of state, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, as the pontifical legate for the event.
