Francis celebrated Mass today for employees of the garden and cleaning services of Vatican City State, giving them a brief homily on charity toward our brothers and sisters.

L’Osservatore Romano reported about the Mass, recounting from the homily this idea: “When we have a heart of stone it happens that we pick up real stones and stone Jesus Christ in the person of our brothers and sisters, especially the weakest of them.”

The Gospel passage was John’s account of the episode of the Jews who wanted to stone Jesus.

The Holy Father celebrated the Mass in the Chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae.

Concelebrating were Cardinale Raúl Eduardo Vela Chiriboga, retired archbishop of Quito, Ecuador, Archbishop Lorenzo Baldisseri, secretary of the College of Cardinals and of the Congregation for Bishops, Monsignor Alfred Xuereb and Monsingor Battista Ricca, director of the Domus.
