The letter, written by Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Vatican secretary of state, was sent to the Argentine leader following the recent promulgation of the decree of a miracle attributed to the intercession of Mother María del Tránsito de Jesús Sacramentado (1821-1885), founder of the Congregation of the Franciscan Tertiary Missionary Sisters.
When the decree was published, which opens the door to the beatification of this Argentine nun, President de la Rúa sent a letter to the Holy Father expressing his appreciation and “the sentiments of closeness and affection of the Argentine people.”
The papal letter assures the president of prayers for “all the Argentine people.” John Paul II said he hopes that “the Lord will fill the beloved sons of that noble nation with his gifts of harmony and peace, especially at this time in history.”
