Pope Francis has departed from his itinerary during his Apostolic Visit to Mexico, Feb. 12-18, to meet local Jesuits.
According to Vatican Radio, after his visit to the pediatric hospital, the Pope made an unscheduled stop with six members of the Mexican Jesuit community in the Apostolic Nunciature, where the Holy Father is staying during his time in Mexico City.
Director of the Holy See Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi, commented, “They had a small conversation.”
“During all his trips abroad, the Pope has small informal meetings with his brothers [Pope Francis is a member of the Jesuits], and it happened when the Pope returned from the [Federico Gomez Children’s] Hospital,” he said.
During the encounter, the Jesuits gave the Holy Father a relic of Blessed Miguel Pro. The martyr was killed in 1927, during the anti-clerical regime of President Plutarco Elías Calles.
