Pope Names New Prefect of Vatican Dicastery for Communications

Pope Francis has named a prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication.

According to a bulletin of the Holy See Press Office published today, July 5, 2018, the Holy Father Francis appointed Dr. Paolo Ruffini, currently director of TV2000, the television network of the Italian Episcopal Conference, as the new prefect.

Born in Palermo, Italy on Oct. 4, 1956, Ruffini graduated in jurisprudence from “La Sapienza” University of Rome. He has been a journalist since 1979, and in 1986, married Maria Argenti.

He has worked in the press: Il Mattino of Naples (1979-1986) and Il Messaggero of Rome (1986-1996), the radio: Giornale Radio Rai (1996-2002), Canale Gr Parliamento (1998-2002), Radio 1 (1999-2002), Inblu Radio (2014-2018), and the television sector: Rai3 (2002-2011), La7 (2011-2014) and Tv2000 (2014-2018).

He has received various journalism awards and has taken part in numerous study conventions on the role of Christians in information, ethics of communication and the new media.
