Pope Names New President for APSA

Archbishop Nunzio Galantino, Currently Secretary General of the Italian Episcopal Conference.

Pope Francis on June 26, 2018, named Archbishop Nunzio Galantino the new President of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA).  He replaces Cardinal Domenico Calcagno, who resigned having reached the age limit for the position.
Archbishop Galantino is bishop emeritus of Cassano all’Jonio and currently secretary general of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CIS).
APSA is the Vatican office that handles investments and real estate holdings.  It functions as the Vatican’s treasury and central bank.
“The appointment of Bishop Nunzio Galantino as President of the Holy See Heritage Administration is a great act of esteem and trust on the part of the Holy Father,” said Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, President of CIS , in Vatican News in Italian. “To our Secretary General, Pope Francis entrusts a great responsibility in an extremely delicate sector which is the management of the economic patrimony of the Apostolic See. ”
