Pope Francis has appointed his personal secretary as a delegate of two Pontifical Commissions overseeing reform of the Vatican’s financial structures.</p>

Msgr. Alfred Xuereb will inform the Pope on the working procedures of the Pontifical Commission for Reference on the Institute for the Works of Religion (IOR) — colloquially known as the Vatican Bank — as well as Pontifical Commission for Reference on the Organisation of the Economic-Administrative Structure of the Holy See.

A statement released by the Holy See said the Maltese prelate will take on a supervisory role in both commissions.

Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Holy See Press Office said the appointment “gives an official character to a role that Msgr. Xuareb has fulfilled for some time.” (J.A.E.)
