Cardinal Giuseppe Versaldi, who until now has been the president of the Prefecture for Economic Affairs of the Holy See, will be the new head of the Congregation responsible for the Vatican dicastery dedicated to Catholic education.

The Vatican made this announcement that Pope Francis made this appointment, along with others, this morning.

The Congregation for Catholic Education, for which Cardinal Versaldi will now be prefect, is responsible for houses of formation of religious and secular institutes; universities, faculties, institutes and higher schools of study, either ecclesial or civil dependent on ecclesial persons; and schools and educational institutes depending on ecclesiastical authorities.

As economic reform continues to be a major priority of the Pontiff, he has made a nomination to Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA) today, naming Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki, Archbishop of Cologne, Germany, as a member.

APSA is the office of the Roman Curia that administers “the properties owned by the Holy See in order to provide the funds necessary for the Roman Curia to function.”

In addition, the Pope named Father Christophe Amade as bishop of the diocese of Kalemie-Kiringu. He also appointed several auxiliaries in the African nation.
