Pope Francis prayed on Sunday for the victims of catastrophic landslide that struck Guatemala, as well as those affected by flooding in France.

<p dir=”ltr”>“I wish to address a prayer to the Lord for the victims of the landslide that engulfed a village in Guatemala, as well as those of the floods on the French Riviera in France,” he said. “We are close to the hardest hit populations with concrete solidarity.”

The death toll is currently at 130 in the village of El Cambray, following Thursday night’s landslide. Guatemala’s Public Ministry announced that over 300 people are still missing. Rescue efforts were hampered on Saturday night due to the fragile state of the land and low visibility.

In southern France, the death toll reached 17 with 4 people missing after heavy rains struck. French President Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency in the affected region of the French Riviera.
