Below is the telegram Pope Francis sent today expressing his condolences on the death of Cardinal Francesco Marchisano, archpriest emeritus of St. Peter’s basilica.
Msgr. Cesare Nosiglia
Archbishop of Turin
Via Della Torre 3 10149 Turin
I learned the news of the death of Cardinal Francesco Marchisano, illustrious son of this land. I would like to express to Your Excellency, to the Presbyter, and the entire diocese, as well as the relatives of the late Cardinal, my profound condolences. I think of the love of the dear pastor who for many years gave diligent collaboration to the Apostolic See, especially in the Congregation for Catholic Education and then as archpriest of the Vatican basilica, and lastly, as president of the Labor Office of the Apostolic See. He leaves a lifetime witness in his generous vocation as priest and bishop, for all the needs of the faithful and sensitive to the world of art and culture. I raise my prayers of suffrage because the Lord welcomes him in joy and in eternal peace, and I send to all those that share in suffering for his loss an apostolic blessing.
