With the proclamation, Bloomberg is commemorating a decade of the Way of the Cross organized over the bridge by the ecclesial movement Communion and Liberation.

The Way of the Cross starts in St. James’ Cathedral in the heart of Brooklyn, pauses for prayer at ground zero of the World Trade Center site, and ends with spiritual reflection in St. Peter’s Church in Manhattan.

The papal message was sent to Cardinal Edward Egan, archbishop of New York.

The Archdiocese of New York published the mayor’s proclamation on its Web page at http://www.ny-archdiocese.org/pastoral/em_events.html.
