Pope to Hold Confession Service With Youth

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 2, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI will preside over a penitential celebration with the youth of the Diocese of Rome this Holy Week.

The Vatican press office announced Thursday the Pope’s innovation for the traditional gathering of youth in St. Peter’s Square on the eve of diocesan-level World Youth Day, April 1, Palm Sunday.

This year’s meeting will take place March 29 inside St. Peter’s Basilica. It will be a “penitential celebration with young people of the diocese of Rome,” the Vatican announced.

The next international World Youth Day will take place in Sydney, Australia, in July 2008.
