Benedict XVI gave his voice of support to the hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers demonstrating today in Washington, D.C..

The Pontiff tweeted this message: “I join all those marching for life from afar, and pray that political leaders will protect the unborn and promote a culture of life.’

The annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., marks the anniversary of the Jan. 22 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. This year is the 40th anniversary of that decision, Roe vs. Wade.

The annual west coast Walk for Life will be on Saturday in San Francisco. Archbishop Carlo Viganò, apostolic nuncio to the United States, will attend that event.
