Cardinal Christoph Schönborn of Vienna, Austria, will preside at the retreat. Among the preachers are Cardinal Philippe Barbarin of Lyon, France, and Cardinal Franciszek Macharski of Krakow.

The retreat will be held in the Divine Mercy Shrine, built near the convent of the Congregation of Sisters of the Virgin of Mercy and of the chapel which houses the portrait of the merciful Jesus as well as the relics of St. Faustina (1905-1938).

There, St. Faustina, the messenger of Divine Mercy, lived the last part of her life and received revelations on the merciful love of the Father, summarized in the phrase “Jesus, I trust in you.”

John Paul II visited Lagiewniki on Aug. 17, 2002, and presided over the consecration ceremony of the new basilica.

The retreat is an initiative of the Missionaries of Mercy, a group of Catholics from various countries supported by Cardinal Schönborn.
