The best medicine for evil is mercy, says the Pope’s secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

The cardinal said this today at the presentation of the Pope’s new book, when he was asked a question about the terrorist attack that occured today in Istanbul, Turkey.

“What is happening [in Turkey] pains us,” the cardinal said. “What is happening there, what continues to repeat itself, confirms that the best medicine in the face of these evils is always mercy.”

An ISIS suicide bomber killed at least 10 people Tuesday in a popular central Istanbul tourist area, near the city’s famous Blue Mosque.
