Today Catholics are sharing their devotion to St. Thérèse of Lisieux via the hashtag #LittleWay.
The Day of the Little Way for Feb. 4 was inspired by a book being released today by Image Books, the final book by Bishop Patrick Ahern.
The book is called “Three Gifts of Thérèse of Lisieux” and it proposes that St. Thérèse left the world with three invaluable gifts: her Universal Appeal, her Conviction, and her Little Way.
Keeping in mind the message of St. Therese of Lisieux, the Day of the Little Way asks Catholics to embrace the New Evangelization by living out the faith in 140 characters, the limit for the number of characters permitted in a tweet.
Catholics are invited to share on Twitter and Vine their small stories of faith, prayers, quotes, inspiration and encouragement.
In the book, Bishop Ahern speaks of the Little Way like this: “Thérèse, within the walls of the Carmelite convent … realized that she was a little soul, and she also knew — and this is what is revolutionary about her — that she, and all the other little souls like her, could still be great saints. Ahead of her time, Thérèse believed in the fundamental message of Vatican II: the universal call to holiness. Little souls, who make up the vast majority of humanity, are well aware of their limitations, their frustration with even the small difficulties encountered every day, their poverty of spirit, and their inability to come close to accomplishing anything of real significance. Nonetheless, these souls can still have an intimate relationship with God, and their lives can have a meaning and legacy equal to that of the great souls. The way for them (as it was for Thérèse) is not the way of greatness but of littleness” (page 89-90).
