PHILADELPHIA, JAN. 6, 2001 (ZENIT.org).- Officials of Temple University in Philadelphia reportedly reacted to a Christian student´s protests of an offensive play by having him thrown into a mental hospital. Agape Press reports that Michael A. Marcavage has now filed suit against the university for this action, which occured in fall 1999.
Marcavage met several times with campus officials to protest the performance of “Corpus Christi,” which portrays Jesus as a homosexual. He claims that after one such meeting, he was forcibly detained and then taken by police car to the Emergency Crisis Center of the university hospital. The doctor who examined him found him “not in need of involuntary treatment,” even though school officials had described him as “severely mentally disabled” and a “clear and present danger to others.”
Marcavage previously worked as a White House intern with security clearance and consistently made the Dean´s List for his high grades. He founded several ministries on campus and was active in Campus Crusade for Christ.
