“The Jeweler’s Shop” to Take Stage in Lourdes

LOURDES, France, JAN. 28, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Karol Wojtyla’s “The Jeweler’s Shop” will be performed as a dance-theater production as part of Lourdes’ annual celebration of peace.

“D’amore e luce” (On Love and Light) is a ballet inspired by the future Pope’s play. Archbishop Wojtyla wrote “The Jeweler’s Shop” in 1956, and it was published in the magazine Znak in 1960. It has inspired various theatrical pieces and a 1987 movie directed by Michael Anderson.

“D’amore e luce” will debut in France on May 23, directed by Corrado Cascianelli, and with music from Adriana Del Giudice.

Lourdes’ celebration of peace is an annul event organized with European universities to promote peace among peoples. It is promoted by the nonprofit organization Mondi Vicini (Neighboring Worlds). This year, it will be held May 22-25.

The Lourdes production of “D’amore e luce” will have two acts and incorporate various languages: music, dance, recitation and video projection.

The project, which began two years ago, has the sponsorship of the Pontifical Council for Culture and the vicariate of the Province of Rome, reported Mondi Vicini.
