ROME, OCT. 3, 2001 (Zenit.org).- The U.N. Population Fund wants to “help” Afghan fleeing their homeland by offering abortions to pregnant refugees.
Last week, when launching its “most imposing humanitarian operation” directed to “thousands of pregnant women” who are crowding the country´s borders, the U.N. agency requested $4.5 million from donor countries to support this effort, which includes “reproductive health services.”
This term, which has been confirmed in recent U.N. world conferences in preparation for the summit on Children, includes abortifacient practices.
On Tuesday, the Italian newspaper Avvenire denounced the abuse of the human rights of women living in terrible psychological conditions.
Avvenire noted that it is not the first time that the U.N. Population Fund has taken recourse to these methods. During the crisis in Kosovo, it also distributed abortifacient products to refugee women.
Meanwhile, the New York section of the Planned Parenthood Federation — the U.N. Population Fund´s principal member –announced that its clinics will offer free “reproductive health services” to women who are directly or indirectly affected by the attacks on the Twin Towers.
