Some 2,000 Catholics and over 100 priests attended the episcopal consecration of Bishop Anthony Dang Mingyan, 36, Wednesday, reported AsiaNews.
Archbishop Anthony Li Duan of Xi’an, once rumored to have been the cardinal “in pectore” never revealed by Pope John Paul II, and in ill health, ordained the new auxiliary.
Representatives of the local government and of the government-backed church were in also in attendance.
Additionally, AsiaNews confirmed today the dual approval of the Holy See and China of Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Xing Wenzhi of Shanghai, ordained June 28.
