RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, FEB. 29, 2012 (Zenit.org).- Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko, president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, told Brazilians that Benedict XVI is already paying close attention to preparations for World Youth Day 2013.

The local organizing committee in Rio has met with a delegation from the laity council.

“The WYD is an adventure of faith where the main protagonist is the Holy Spirit,” Cardinal Rylko recalled. “And He is our strength!”

Meetings included those with the governor of the region and mayor of the city, as well as with leaders of ecclesial movements and communities.

The Vatican delegation also is evaluating the venues for ceremonies over which the Pope will preside during the July 23-28 event.

Today, Cardinal Rylko presided over a Mass in the archdiocesan shrine of Christ the Redeemer of Corcovado, to commemorate the 447 years of the foundation of the city of Rio de Janeiro. A nocturnal vigil for young people followed in St. Anne church.

This Saturday is the deadline for presenting the text of the official theme song, which is to be made public April 1. On Sunday, the archdiocese will begin the fundraising campaign to assist pilgrims with hospitality and welcome.
