Vatican: Prayer for Young People at Sant’Anna Parish

Masses Celebrated by Cardinal Comastri and Cardinal Baldisseri

In connection with the October 2018 Synod for Young People and the World Youth Day in Panama in January 2019, a  prayer for young people will be recited, in Sant’Anna parish in the Vatican, at the end of each celebration of the Triduum in preparation for the feast of the Holy Patroness, observed on July 26, reported L’Osservatore  Romano on Monday, July 24, 2017.

Two solemn Masses were celebrated on the first day of the Triduum, by Cardinal Angelo Comastri, Vicar General for Vatican City and arch-priest of Saint Peter’s Basilica, and by Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops. The parishioners recited a prayer there “for the Church on the way.”

The parish priest of Saint Anne’s, Father Bruno Silvestrini, explained that the theme of young people was also chosen to encourage “mothers and grandmothers in the human and spiritual formation of their children and grandchildren.” The church houses an image of Saint Anne, located behind the main altar, before which many pregnant women pray every day.

In order to emphasize the preparation for the WYD at Panama, three Panamanians will take part in a concert on the day of the feast: the parish Vicar, Jafet Ramon Ortega, who will play the organ, with Eduardo Rodriguez and Edgar Dutary –two youths who are in Rome to study music – who will play the trumpet and the tuba respectively. The parish choir, directed by Maestro Gaetano Civitillo, will animate the feast.

Saint Anne is also celebrated in the Roman church of Santa Caterina della Rota, headquarters of the Arch-Confraternity of Papal Grooms of Saint Anne. This year the Eucharistic Celebration there will be presided over by Monsignor Georg Gänswein, Prefect of the Papal Household and personal secretary of Pope Benedict XVI. On that occasion, he will bless the building’s restored facade. Singers of the Sistine Chapel will take part in the Mass, specified the Vatican daily.
