“Let us pray for the conversion of hearts and for those affected by Alzheimer’s, for their families and for those who lovingly care for them,” asked the Holy Father.

With these words, during the General Audience in St. Peter’s Square today, September 18, 2019, the Holy Father made an appeal, pointing out that this Saturday, September 21, is World Alzheimer’s Day.

The Pontiff said it is an illness that affects “many men and women” who, because of it, “are often victims of violence, mistreatment and abuses that violate their dignity.”

Cancer Patients

The Bishop of Rome also wished to associate this prayer to “those sick with cancer, so that they can also be increasingly supported, both in its prevention as well as in the treatment of this illness.”

In the catechesis of today’s General Audience, the Pope took up again the series of catecheses on the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, inviting to follow the example of Gamaliel’s discernment, who called for the release of the disciples, arguing that if their apostolic activity was from God “it’s better not to fight against them as, otherwise, they could expose themselves to fighting against Him.”
